“We are 5 MBA graduates from Class 2015 that are building a sustainable business to deliver high quality early childhood education to 10 million children living in urban slums within the next five years.
Our project – Educuento – has already won the Regional Competition for the Hult Prize and we are we are going to compete on the final round on September 2015.
Words are nutrition for the brain; a child who doesn’t hear enough words in early childhood is intellectually stunted for life. This is called the Word Gap. It happens because parents in urban slums believe education starts in schools and fail to recognize the critical role they play in their children’s education from birth to age 6. They don’t know how important it is to stimulate their children’s brains, nor do they know how.
Research shows that the Word Gap has major consequences for children in long-term educational and health outcomes, earnings, vocabulary size, school readiness, and even family stability decades later.
Educuento empowers parents and caregivers living in urban slums to become their children’s best educators – delivering the information, stimulation, and interaction their children need to achieve their full potential.
The challenge we face is massive. Massive in scale, massive in complexity, and massive in potential. That is why we cannot do it alone, we need your help.
We need to raise $15,000 to fund our pilot project. Even more than that, to win the Hult Prize and be able to make this project a reality, we need to show that people believe in us and our solution. At the time of writing this, we had 44 donors. We need that number to be in the hundreds, if not thousands. We know we can do it with your help. If you believe in us, please show your support. Even $5 gets us closer to our goal and we appreciate it more than you know.”
